About Us

The Franklin Art Association is a non-profit organization established in 1971 to provide a forum for the promotion of visual arts; for the preservation of the finest artistic traditions by means of exhibiting works, conducting classes, lectures, and sponsoring other activities favorable to artistic expression and to provide friendly exchanges among painters, photographers and those interested in the fine arts.  Members aren’t just from Franklin but from many area towns: Bellingham, Hopkinton, Milford, Medway, Norfolk, Foxborough, Mendon, North Attleborough and more.

Regular monthly meetings are held at the Franklin Senior Center, 10 Daniel McCahill St., in Franklin, Massachusetts.  The Senior Center a large building located diagonally across from the town common and across from St. Mary’s Church (directions)  Meetings are from 6:30-9:00 PM with a business meeting starting at 6:45, the first Wednesday of each month, September through June.  Meetings are free and open to the public, and you can also join in via Zoom.

Art shows are held in the fall and spring for a period of one day to one month depending upon the venue.  Activities associated with these shows typically  include reception, art work judging, silent auction, bin sales, student exhibition, raffle, and viewers choice judging.

Workshops led by recognized artists are held periodically throughout the year.  A range of media and techniques are covered including life painting, oil painting, watercolor and pastel.

Plein Air field trips are scheduled from time to time during the year.  These informal outdoor sessions have included landscape painting at the Audubon Stonybrook and Broadmoor reservations and Uxbridge’s River Bend Farm.

Student Scholarships are awarded each year to a Franklin High School senior who plans on majoring in art.  Student portfolios and recommendations are judged by FAA officers.
