While in college, I studied biology and art, hoping to combine the two areas as a medical or scientific
illustrator. I landed a teaching job in Central Falls and continued to work there for 33 years. As a
teacher in that school system, I had the opportunity to utilize my artistic abilities in the classroom,
creating scientific and biological diagrams for my classes and teaching art classes to senior high
students as well.
It wasn't until I retired from teaching that I started to take up watercolor painting as a hobby. I
signed up for workshops at the Rhode Island Watercolor Society and painted with many talented and
wonderful people. I truly believe that to learn to paint, to learn to grow and develop as an artist,
one must work with others that share the same love and desire for what they do. The Rhode Island
Watercolor Society offers a place where one can develop a technique and style unique to the individual.
Presently, I teach watercolor classes at the Cumberland
Library on Friday mornings. I have met so many talented people and hopefully, have helped them
discover how watercolor can become a part of their life, too. It is the process that one goes through
in creating a painting that makes watercolor exciting.
